Because of their size, Flash drives are easily misplaced, lost or even left behind in computers everyday. You can take steps to protect and perhaps even get your Flash drive returned. Just try the following:

  • Use MSWord (or any word processing program) to create a single file. Name the file “IF FOUND”. You can enter any information you want such as:

IF FOUND

Please return to [your name], at [your location].
[your phone] or [your email].

In the file, put whatever important information you would like someone (who has just found your flash drive) to have, such as a phone number, name, email address, reward, or instructions for returning the flash drive to a location or mailbox. Save the file to your flash drive desktop (not in a folder on your flash drive) where it can be easily seen if someone mounts your Flash drive on their computer.

  • Add your name to the Device (most are defaulted to “no name”). Just right-click and rename using your name or other identification. When someone mounts the drive, they will see your name or identification.
Hopefully, if you should ever loose your Flash drive, someone who finds it can return it to you safely and quickly.
